Charles Eldon White, 84, of Jonesborough, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Asbury Center at Baysmont following a short illness. Born in Greene County, he had been a resident of Jonesborough most of his life. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Upon leaving the service, he went to work for Magnavox Electronics, from where he retired after 31 years of service. He also worked for several years on the family dairy farm. He was an active member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose White; his parents, Onnie and Georgia Mays White; stepmother, Nova White; three brothers, Ira, Harley Junior, and Jess White; one sister, Freila White, and a granddaughter, Kelli White.
He is survived by two sons, Vance White and wife Robin, of Kingsport; and Jeff White and wife Sherri, of Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Tyler and Alexandra "Alex" White, and Spenser White; a sister, Ila Hall, of Fall Branch; a brother, Lloyd White and wife Jean, of Fall Branch; a sister-in-law, Phyllis White, of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church, and anytime at the home of Vance White, 961 Rock Springs Road. Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Vic Wallace officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Spenser White, Tyler White, Gary Hall, Scott White, Robert "Doonie" Ward, and members of the Men's Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
