Charlie A. Ball, Sr., died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born July 2, 1917, in the Brown?s Mountain Community of Hawkins County, but had resided in Kingsport most of his life.
Mr. Ball retired from Citizens Supply Corporation after nearly 40 years of service and was co-founder of Ward and Ball Roofing. He attended Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church and was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John Ed and Elizabeth Brown Ball; sisters, Stella Hawkins, Luva Baird, Clara Brooks, Lea Gardner, and Chloe Roberts; and brothers, Hansel and Hubert Ball.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Helen McCann Ball; a daughter, Shirley Birch and husband, Don; three sons, Charlie Ball Jr. and wife, Barbara, Rev. Mark Ball and wife, Faye, and Leonard Ball and wife, Toni, all of Kingsport; two granddaughters, Renae Dickenson and Rachel Hall; six grandsons, Scott Ball, David Ball, Daniel Ball, Josh Ball, Brian Birch, and Matthew Birch; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pauline Ball, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post #3/265 at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to send a special thanks to all the Amedisys Home Health Care staff?especially Amy Carter and Kym Meade, and all the nurses that came from Adventa Hospice Services, and to Dr. Ananthula and her staff.
