Chris D. Stidham, 94, of Kingsport, was resurrected on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. Born in Blackwater, VA, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was retired from Rentenbach & Wright where he worked as a carpenter for many years. Mr. Stidham was a pastor/evangelist for 40 years and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was also active in the Kingsport Senior Citizens Center as an RSVP volunteer.
Mr. Stidham is survived by his wife, Mary Toronjo Stidham of Kingsport; daughters, Lola Prillhart, Esther Luster and husband Ira, all of Kingsport, and Jean Widener and husband Hunter of Bristol, VA; grandchildren, Mark Prillhart, Phillip Luster, Greg Luster, Eric Stidham, Toby Stidham, and Lisa Range; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Alvin Stidham and wife Darlene and Albert Stidham and wife Doris, all of IN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Kinsler Stidham; parents Gordon and Mary Stidham, brothers, Henry, Marvin, and Melvin Stidham; and sisters, Mae Sturgill and Kate Kinsler.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home; 117 E. Charlemont Avenue; Kingsport. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Clamon Stewart, Don Salyers, and Carl Stapleton.
