Christena Atwood "Chris" Christian

Christena Atwood Christian, December 7, 1940 - June 20, 2009

After a brief illness, Christena passed away peacefully at her home at 1220 Independence Avenue, Mount Carmel, Tennessee. Christena was born in Carroll County, Virginia and was raised in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She graduated from Church Hill High School and was retired from the Kingsport Press.

Christena was one of three children born to the late Robert and Ella Thompson and was the beloved wife of James Richard Christian for 49 years.

Christena will forever be remembered by her devoted brother, Robert Thompson; her loving sister, Mattie Hawk; her beloved son and daughter, Marcus J. Christian and Penny Lynn Nunley; son-in-law, Danny Nunley; daughter-in-law, Lisa A. Christian; her treasured grandchildren, Matthew J. Christian and Justin Wayne Nunley; along with countless other friends and family members who were blessed to know her.

Christena loved her cats, Prissy and Patches. She also loved laughing, and being with her family. Christena touched the lives of many people with her smile and caring love.

The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Evangelist Pat Hammond officiating.

Graveside services will be held following the funeral service at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
