Claire Jean Steadman Holden, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was the daughter of Nelson E. and Stacy Bragg Steadman and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. She was a member of Walkers Fork Baptist Church in the Lone Star Community. She retired from J. P. Stevens after many years of service. Jean was a long time member of the Fifty-Five Club and the Women of the Moose where she participated in many of their charity events. She was a loving and giving person to everyone she knew, devoted to her family and will be missed by her loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Stacy Steadman; brothers, Nelson Steadman, Jr. and Johnny W. Steadman; sisters, Betty Jane Steadman and Thelma Steadman Boyer; son in-law Jeffery Mitchell, grandson Dustin Mitchell, sisters-in-law Bertha Steadman, Eula Steadman and Eleen Steadman.
She is survived by O'Dell Holden, her loving husband of 63 years; children, Steve Holden, Sandra Light and husband, Rick, Kathy Mitchell, Danny Holden and wife, Becky, John Holden and companion Helen Gibson, Lisa Holden and companion Gary Ball, Garry Holden and wife, Lisa, Larry Holden and special friend Cindy Rollins; grandchildren, Tonya McDavid, Chris Arndt, Shannon Mitchell, Sara Valdez, Rachel Grubbs, Zane, Jessie, Ben and Lindsey Holden; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; sister Barbara Morelock and husband Ed; brothers, J.C. Steadman, Robert Steadman, Orville Steadman and wife, Wanda, J.D. Steadman and wife, Shirley; and sister in-law Helen Westmoreland. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also visit at the family home in the Poplar Grove Community. Memorial services will follow at 7 pm with the Rev. Kelly Dykes officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Hwy 75 Airport Road. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
