Clara Marie Johnson McCray

Clara Marie Johnson McCray, born August 31, 1932, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's and breast cancer. She was a member of Browders Chapel.

Mrs. McCray will be remembered by many as a very strong, loving person, as a mother, and as a friend to many. She fought a courageous battle most of her life showing strength, humility, a love of her family and friends, and faith in Jesus. She will be greatly remembered for always having beautiful smile and eyes.

She was preceded in death by her children's father, Lawrence Johnson; parents, John Vernon and Margaret Harkleroad; two brothers, John and Samuel Harkleroad; and son-in-law, Larry W. Ryans.

Clara is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Ryans Goddard and husband, Dexter, Linda Wright, and Connie Carter; two sons, David Johnson, and Steve Johnson and wife, Cathy; five grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Michael Wright, Amanda Moody, Jessica Wright, and Kayla Parsons; brother, William Harkleroad and wife, Susan; sisters, Betty McGrady and Pauline Olinger; sister-in-law, Lucy Harkleroad; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Gloria Lobine.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14th from 12-2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport and at the home, 901 New Beason Well Road, #3104. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Larry Stallard officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral service at East Lawn Memorial Park.

A special thanks to Elk Valley Choices Program, Smoky Mountain Hospice Staff, Dr. Diane Nunley and to all others and agencies who participated in her care, and to Gloria Lobine and Marie's son, David for their special care.
