Clara Mae Roberts, 88, of the Pine Grove Community, went home to be with the Lord on April 1, 2018, Easter Sunday, at her home, surrounded in love by her family and friends. She was born September 16, 1929 in Sullivan County.
She was a loving, Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She faithfully attended Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church her entire life, as long as her health permitted. She was loved by all who knew her. She surrounded those she met with kindness and graciousness.
She was the widow of the late Elza Nelson "Nelse" Roberts. She remained devoted to him for her entire life. She was a true example of a loving wife, setting a Godly example for her family with her unwavering love for her husband.
She is survived by her son, Johnny, with whom she made her home for the last 30 years & her daughter Shirley Thorp of Kingsport. She shared a strong bond with her children that could only be described as unconditional love.
Grandchildren, Cynthia & Mitch Ketron, Jonathan & Sarah Thorp of Kingsport and Angie & Charlie Lehan of the Pine Grove community. Great-Grandchildren, Quenton Espinoza, Savannah Espinoza, 'Lil Rob' Espinoza, Ryan Lehan & Lindsey Claire Lehan. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She often referred to them as her 'Sugar Babies". She loved every moment spent in the presence of her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is also survived by a sister, Lonell Crawford and daughter-in-law, Sue Roberts.
She has been blessed to be surrounded daily by amazing caregivers, Dawn Hutson, Debbie Charlton, Angela Wedding & Ann Dykes and many extended family members and friends.
She was the daughter of the late Moody McCamey & Nannie McCamey Conkin and was proceeded in death by a son, Sammie Roberts, son-in-law Billy Thorp, 4 brothers: Alden, Ralph, George & Robert and 5 sisters: Alma Jean McCamey, Nina McCamey, Inez Parton, Mary Roberts & Isabell Parton.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 12720 Horton Hwy, and any other times at the home of Johnny.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Pine Grove Free Will Baptist Church with intermit to follow. The Rev. Pete Smith and Rev. Dwayne Steele will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Lehan, Ryan Lehan, Mitch Ketron, Jonathan Thorp, Marty Jackson, Kenny Kerr, Doug Carter and Ralph McGhee. Honorary Pallbearers will be the congregation of Pine Grove FWB Church and her friends in the Pine Grove Community.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Katherine Gray, Dr. John Shaw and nurses and caregivers at Amedisys Hospice, especially nurses PJ, Angie & Tracy whom she adored; and the staff of Hamlett-Dobson funeral home.
