Clarence "Ike" Reed, Sr., 79, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Friday October 2, 2009 at home while surrounded by his family.
Born in Scott County, VA, he resided most of his life in Kingsport and had retired from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Reed was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Reed was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Kelly, Sr. and Lulabela Reed; one brother, Robert Kelly Reed, Jr.; and two sisters, Opal McConnell and Jean Johnson.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Reed of Kingsport; daughter, Kathy Ducker and husband Mark of Kingsport; five sons, Clarence Reed, Jr. and wife Lorene of Gate City, VA, Guy Reed, Richard Reed and wife Debbie, Terry Reed and fianc e Angela Light, and Stephen Reed, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Melissa Greene and husband, Shane, Shane Reed, Ashley Newell and husband Teddy, and Kelly Reed and wife Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Glass, Zachary and Sydni Greene, and Hayden and Hunter Reed; nieces, Linda McDavid, Pat Castle, and Sheila Rasnick; and nephew, Sheryl Elkins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor James O. Hagy officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Posts #3/265.
