Claude J. Roller, 90, of Kingsport died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the home of his daughter.
He was born February 12, 1918, in Eidson, Tennessee, and moved to Hawkins County where he lived all his life except the last four years.
Mr. Roller worked at Kingsport Press for 25 years and later owned Roller Construction. He was active in the Home Builders Association of Greater Kingsport where he was voted Builder of the Year and served on the Board of Mayor and Alderman of Church Hill.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Mabel Roller; his parents, J. C. and Glenna Roller; and one brother, Elmer Roller.
Surviving are three daughters, Pat Blevins of Church Hill, Claudette Dezarne of Kingsport, Kathy Cassidy of Mt. Carmel; four grandchildren, Chris Terry, Mike Terry, Kym Anderson Myers, Todd Cassidy; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Alley of Church Hill, Ann Alley and husband Hugh of Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, and caregivers Patsy Street, Nancy Pratt, Tina Reece, and Betty and Marcella for all the kindness you showed to our father.
Receiving of friends will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Mellons officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Mike Pelham Chaplain of Amedisys Hospice officiating and military rites by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW. Pallbearers will be Lynn Roller, Doyle Alley, Bill Hensley, Hobert Olinger, Travis Tiller, and Frank Shanks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Earl Roller, Jerry Alley, and Jene Mowell.
