Claudell Sandidge

Claudell Mellon Sandidge, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the age of 95 after an extended illness. Claudell was born on June 3, 1929 in Kingsport, TN and was a graduate of Sullivan High School and Tri-City Technical Institute with a degree in Secretarial Science. She worked at JC Penney’s and Tennessee Eastman Company and finished her career at Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA as the Administrative Assistant to the President.

Claudell was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Manie Mellon; and her devoted husband of 69 years, John D. Sandidge. 

Survivors include her sons, David Sandidge (Pam) of Kingsport and Steven Sandidge (Ann) of Rochester, NY; four grandchildren, Colin Sandidge, Spencer Sandidge, Sara Lanchantin (Dan) and Ryan Sandidge; one great-grandchild, Lucas Lanchantin; and special friends, Bill and Doris Sandidge and Laura Hoover.

Claudell was a kind, giving woman who always provided love and support to her family. She enjoyed reading, cooking and keeping up with current events. Claudell was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff’s at Preston Place Suites and Preston Place II over the past several years.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
