Clay Bowser, 86, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Holston Manor.
A native of Sullivan County, he was a veteran of the US Army during World War II, having served with the 62nd general hospital unit. Upon discharge, Clay came back to work for Eastman Kodak Company where he retired after over 43 years of service. He was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church. Clay enjoyed woodworking, gardening, mowing and helping others work.
He was preceded in death by his son, Clay Bowser, Jr.; parents Rev. Carson and Mabel Bowser; brother, Cecil Bowser; sister Jessie Gillis; and great grandson "Gizmo" Tidwell.
Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, Mary Nell Bowser; daughter Jane Jackson and husband, Lanny of Mt. Carmel; two grandchildren, April Shultz and husband, Bobby, Patty Tidwell and husband, Tommy; and six great-grandchildren all of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will begin at 7 pm with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating. Music will be provided by Andy Coffman. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 pm Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
