Clay Brumit, 46, of Crowley, TX passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 unexpectedly due to a heart attack.
Clay graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in 1982 where he played on the soccer team. He attended East Tennessee State University. After a trip to the Cotton Bowl in 1986, he decided to make Texas his home. He worked for Xerox for the past 12 years. He passionately played disc golf every chance he could and was an active member of the Arlington Disc Golf Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas M. Brumit, Jr.; paternal grandparents, Thomas Sr. and Ercel Brumit; maternal grandparents, Reatha Hobbs and James Waters.
Survivors include mother, Janet Brumit of Johnson City; sister, Lauri Hale and husband, Steve of Johnson City; nephews, Walker and Hayden Hale of Johnson City; aunts and uncles, Nancy and Dr. Paul Stanton of Johnson City, Carolyn and Jim Brumit of Wilmington, NC, Geraldine and Dan Schmutz of Nashville, Elizabeth and Wayne Dunn of Memphis, Beth and Jimmy Waters of Murfreesboro, TN, and Barbara and Steven Waters of La Verne, TN; and many cousins and special friends.
A memorial service in Texas will be Saturday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church of Hurst, 521 W. Pipeline, Hurst, TX 76053, with the Rev. Ben Crismon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Mafair United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Graveside services will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.
