On January 10, 1927, Clemith McNutt Eddins was born to Essie and Edgar McNutt, both long deceased. She died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at her home in the Villas of Asbury Place. Born and raised in Durham, NC, she graduated from Durham High School in 1947. Upon graduation, she went to work for Harris Upham, local office of the New York Brokerage Firm as a board marker. In 1947, she took the exam and became North Carolina's first female stock broker. The same year, she married Lang Eddins, her husband of 69 years. When Lang was recalled by the Navy during the Korean War, she moved with him to Jacksonville, FL, and went to work for Thompson, McKinnon, another N.Y. Brokerage Firm. A few years later, back in Durham, she retired to raise her family. In 1964, Lang was transferred to New Orleans by his employer, Sears. The family spent the next 37 enjoyable years there. Active in her church at Oak Park Baptist, she taught preschoolers for more than 25 years. She was active in the WMU and led GA's. She loved the Lord and served him well throughout her life. As her children grew older, she became a Girl Scout Leader and was active for a number of years. She loved bridge and played until her eyesight failed. She enjoyed life, especially the symphony, Barter theater, and traveling. She and her husband made numerous trips through Europe. Clemith and Lang moved to Kingport, TN in 2001, to be near family. They joined First Baptist Church and were members of the Koinonia Sunday School class.
Clemith is survived by her daughters, Cindy McElroy and husband, Drew, and Linda Kern and husband, Steven; grandchildren, Matt Kern and wife, Helen, Trey McElroy and Chris McElroy.
