Cleveland Ward Cochran

Mr. Cleveland Ward Cochran, age 86, died at Wexford House Tuesday, March 18, 2008 after an extended illness.

Born in Moultrie, Georgia, Mr. Ward Cochran was the son of the late Grover Cleveland & Ethel Ward Cochran. He served in the U.S. Navy near the end of WWII and was a graduate of Georgia Tech where he majored in chemical engineering. Ward came to Kingsport to work for Tennessee Eastman as a mechanical engineer in the Tenite department and retired after about 38 years of service. Mr. Cochran was a member of the Tennessee Eastman Hiking Club and spent many hours volunteering to help with maintenance of the Appalachian Trail. Ward was also a faithful member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kingsport and shared his mechanical and carpentry skills volunteering and supporting the church's day school along with his dear friend, Frank Oglesby. Ward loved spending time with his family, especially at Bays Mountain as well as sharing a love for classical music by supporting the Kingsport Symphony Orchestra and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse, NY.

Ward was preceded in death by his dear wife of over 52 years, Anna Mary Good Cochran who died on Jan. 7, 2001.

He is survived by his brother, Eugene C. Cochran and his wife Martha H. Cochran of Boca Raton, FL; one son, Alan Ward & Norene Cochran of Yuma, VA; three daughters - Deborah & George Coble of Liverpool, NY; Connie & Dave Brown, Charlotte, NC; and Barbara & Jeff Scruggs of Sumter, SC; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, one great grandson, and ten step great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, Friday night, March 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 161 East Ravine Rd. with The Reverend Edward James Mills III and Reverend Marquita L. Hutchens officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
