Cora Lee Durham Tankersley

Cora Lee Durham Tankersley, 70, Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Wexford House Nursing Home. She was employed with Kingsport Times News for over 20 years and was of the Baptist faith. She had an abundance of special friends and relatives and was a "mother" to many of the young ones throughout the years. Even though she had no siblings her dear cousins Wanda Burks and Shelby Roberts were just like sisters and she always look up to her cousin Larry Winkle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Mattie Wallen and by 3 special cousins, Clarence (Dal) Wallen, Carlos Wallen, and Leonard Winkle.

Cora is survived by her SPECIAL husband and best friend of 47 years, Truman Tankersley; daughter, Sheryl Williams of Muncie, IN; sons, Jeff Tankersley and wife, Tammy of Church Hill, TN, and Mike Tankersley and wife, Michelle of Kingsport, TN; two special granddaughters, Halie Tankersley and Alaina Tankersley; a bundle of joy, great-grandson, Rhylan Tankersley; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 - 7:30 on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral will follow at 7:30 with Rev. Rick Vannoy and Rev. Larry Winkle officiating. Music will be provided by dear family members Ralph and Shelby Roberts, their son, Anthony (Tony) Roberts, along with Becky Lawson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Tankersley Cemetery in Blackwater, VA with brothers-in-law, Jerry Tankersley and Fred Tankersley officiating.

Pallbearers will be Scott Kerns, Roger Hammonds, Anthony Roberts, Preston McPherson, Bobby Manis, Bobby Scott, Bob Sluder, Shannon Castle and Ricky McPherson. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael (Poncho) Salyers, Chad Hutson and Pharnell Raines.

A special thanks to the Wexford House Nursing Home and their staff for the care they displayed during this difficult time for our family.
