Cordie Smawley, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Wellmont Madison House. Cordie loved most the role of mother. Her family was the most important thing in this world to her. She also liked helping others and was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary as well as a volunteer in various other organizations after her retirement. Traveling was another interest of hers which she followed as long as she was able, with Hawaii being her favorite destination.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas G. Ogle and Mattie B. Ogle; husband, Lee Ray Smawley; two sons, Tom Smawley and Don Smawley; and grandson, Donny Smawley.
Cordie is survived by three daughters, Betty Smawley of New York; Pearl Herron of Kingsport, and Veneta Borum (James Borum) of Maryland; three grandchildren, Lee Smawley (Samantha Smawley), Jennifer Keener (Kermit Keener) of Kingsport, and Michelle Smawley of New York; and several great-grandchildren.
Wellmont Madison House became her home in the last 10 years of life. We wish to thank them for making her a part of the family and for the care she was given in these years. We would also like to extend our appreciation to all the wonderful hospice people who made her final days more peaceful.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 28, 2019 as Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to Madison House, 2000 Greenway St., Kingsport, TN 37660.
