C.R. "Charlie" Baker, 91, of Kingsport, went to be with Jesus on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Wexford House. Born the son of a single mother in a coal camp in Evarts, KY, Charlie served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. After serving in the Navy he attended the University of Kentucky. In 1950, Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Elliott and moved to Kingsport where they raised their three children, George, Becky, and Amy. He worked at and retired from Holston Defense, where he hired hundreds of men and women.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace H. Gilly.
Charlie is survived by his two daughters, Amy Bowman and Becky Jenkins and husband, Jerry; one son, George Baker and wife Tammy; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside services will be private.
