Curtis Harrison Payne, 85, of Kingsport, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Curtis was born in Rogersville, TN and moved to Kingsport at an early age. He retired from Tennessee Eastman and was a Veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and golf. He was an avid UT football fan. Curtis was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church but was attending Mountain View Baptist Church in Johnson City. He was a long time member of The Eagles Club #3274 and a member of VFW Post #3382.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Hawk Payne; parents, Carl and Margaret Altom Payne; and sister, Betty Payne Hawkins.
Curtis is survived by his daughter, Terri Payne Nielsen and husband, Paul of Keller, TX; three grandchildren, Kyler, Spencer and Nicole Nielsen; sister-in-law, Ethel Whitlock of Kingsport; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 - 2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rich Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jim Whitlock, Christopher Whitlock, Charles Dahl, Rick Morris, Vernon McCray, Bill Davis, Westley Dahl and Mason Dahl.
