Dale N. Underwood, 69, son of Homer and Emily (Jerri) Underwood, celebrated life from July 31, 1947 - December 23, 2016. He was born in St. Louis, MO. He prepared for his career in education by graduating from Rhodes College in Memphis, and received his Master's degree in Education from the University of Memphis. Dale had a long and varied career in education, serving in AR, TN, and KY as a guidance counselor, vocational high school principal, and college teacher (Lexington Community College), where he received the Carolyn Beam Award in the field of computer education. His computer career also included work with WLEX TV and Lexington Herald-Leader news. Dale's greatest gift of service was through the Gideons Int. for about 20 years as a lay speaker and Bible distributor.
Surviving are Dale's wife, Joyce McConnell Underwood; their children, Mark (Alanna) Underwood and Anna (Mark) Van Horn; and six grandchildren. His brother Larry and wife, Edith Underwood reside near Atlanta.
A family graveside service is being held in Kingsport, TN on Tuesday at 3:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Noel Fuller officiating. Later a memorial service will be held in Wilmore, KY.
