Dale Wayne Boyd

2 Timothy 4:7 " I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith."

Kingsport, Tn. - Dale Wayne Boyd, age 60, went home to be with the Lord after an extended battle with ALS on Tuesday January 1, 2019, at his residence surrounded by family and friends. Dale was born in Bristol, Va., on October 25, 1958 and lived in Kingsport, TN. He worked for the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office for over 20 years and was working as a long-haul truck driver for Old Dominion Freight line when he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS). Dale loved life and enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife, camping, fishing on South Holston Lake and most of all spending time with his wife, kids and friends.

Dale fought a courageous battle with ALS and used this disease to share God's love with others. Dale had faith that God would heal him, and he did when he called Dale home. Dale donated his brain and spinal cord to NeuroScience Associates, Inc. (NSA) in Knoxville TN, to be used for research to find a cure for ALS.

He was preceded in death by his mother Nellie Arlene Boyd.

Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and loving wife Lisa LaForce Boyd, who was a part of his life for over 18 years, of Kingsport, TN; son, Jason Boyd and wife, Tyla of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Katelyn Robbins and husband Cody, of Gray, TN; father, Glen Boyd of Blountville, TN; sister, Tammie Boyd Simmons and husband, Kenny of Pounding Mill, VA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris and Pete LaForce; sister-in-law, Leslie Depew and husband, Mike; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, January 5 from 3 to 5 pm at Christ Fellowship Church located at 260 Victory Lane, Kingsport, Tn. 37664. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Derek Harden officiating at 5 pm, followed by a fellowship meal. Dale has requested that those who have a Boyd's Believer's shirt please wear it for ALS Awareness.

Dale will be laid to rest on Sunday January 6 at 2 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, TN. Those wishing to attend the service should plan on arriving at the cemetery no later than 1:45 pm.
Pallbearers will be Danny Barrett, Louie Eleas, Jim Kindle, Larry LaGuardia, Mark McGlothlin, and Terry Ward. Dale's close friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family is deeply grateful to so many people who comforted and cared for Dale and Lisa during the difficult stages of ALS progression. Dale wanted to specifically express gratitude to Dale's father-in-law, Pete LaForce, who was always willing to help around the house, his best friends, Larry LaGuardia and Louie Eleas who visited on a regular basis, many caregivers who tended to his needs, and to his greatest caregiver, best friend and wife, Lisa Boyd.

Dale also wanted to recognize Phil and Dianna Pippin, of Phil's Dream Pit Barbecue, Kristin Castle Killen, of Café 93 and Jeremy Jones of Woodstone Deli for befriending and ministering to our family during the ALS journey.

Special thanks to Jane Luethke, Care Services Coordinator, ALS Association, and the good people of Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care and support given to Dale and Lisa during the declining stages of this terrible disease.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Fellowship Church located at 260 Victory Lane, Kingsport, Tn. 37664. (Please mark in memory of Dale Boyd)
