Dallas Eugene "Buddy" Greer

Dallas Eugene "Buddy" Greer, 83, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning 7-10-11 after an extended illness.

Gene was born in Kingsport where he lived most of his life. He was a 1945 graduate of Sullivan High School. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as Boy Scout Leader of Troop 89 at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed working with young people. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after thirty-three years of delivering mail throughout Kingsport and Sullivan County. Gene also served as president of the Kingsport Branch #1999 Letter Carriers Union.

He was a faithful member of West View Primitive Baptist Church and a member of The American Legion.

His daughter, Andrea Erwin, parents, Clifford and Pearl Spears Greer, sisters, June Smith, Kate Fletcher, and brother, Wallace Greer preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Dexal Laster Greer, of the home; two daughters, Sharon Jordan and husband Francis, Pitkin, LA; Colleen Frazier and husband Terry, Gate City, VA; son-in-law, Toney Erwin, Kingsport, TN; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Charlene Castle, Kingston, TN; brother, Andrew Greer and wife Georgia, Sulphur Springs Community; sister-in-law, Freda Greer, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening July 14, 2011 with Elder Burnice Sybert officiating.
Music will provided by the West View Singers.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
