Daniel Reid Sewell

Daniel Reid Sewell, 48, Kingsport, was in a car accident on Thursday, October 13, 2016, as he travelled to Charleston, South Carolina. Dan was the third son of Dr. and Mrs. David H. Sewell of Kingsport. He is survived by his parents, Mary and David, and his brother, David, Jr. of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew, who died in infancy. Other survivors include aunts, uncles, cousins, and his very special and true friend, Anne Hammond. Dan was born in Richmond, Virginia, lived in Wellesley, Mass., before moving to Kingsport in the sixth grade. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America, and played in the school band. He graduated from Tusculum College. His passions were music and outdoor adventures. One of his most memorable experiences was a winter tour with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). He was also employed as a river guide on the Nolichucky River. He worked in Joseph's MusiCenter where he later became the owner. Following the sale of the store, he worked for WETS radio. Those who knew him will remember his kind and generous heart. He continually reached out with deep compassion to people in need. God's special gift to Dan was a winning personality, topped off by his magical grin. He never met a stranger.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 21st at 11:00 a.m., at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Spurgeon McCartt and Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. The family will receive friends following, in the parlor.
