Daniel H. "Pappy" Smith

Daniel H. Smith, 68, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Daniel was born in Hawkins County Tennessee, one of three triplets, to Arthur and Nellie Smith. He retired from General Shale, where he was known as "Hippie", after 34 years of service. Daniel was a host of Little Oaks Campground on South Holston Lake and crazy about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie Strong, Roberta Smith, Ann Stout and Dorothy Smith; and brothers, Sammy Smith and Garry Smith.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Elizabeth Smith; daughter, Shella Smith, and Melissa Keesee and husband, Darwin; grandchildren, Danielle Hagy, Ashley Cross, Logan Rasnake, Lindsey Rasnake, Tyler Keesee, Trevor Keesee and Darian Keesee; great-grandchildren, Austin Hagy, Lakin Cross, Aaron Hagy and Avery Hill; sisters, Daisy Scism, Maggie Barnes, and Faye Sexton and husband, Gary; brothers, Johnny Smith and wife, Rita, and David Smith and wife, Patricia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Claude Davis and Rev. Kenneth Matthews.

The graveside service will be conducted on Sunday at 1:00 pm at McPheeters Bend Baptist Church Cemetery in Church Hill.
