Darrell D. Fine, 87, Colonial Heights community of Kingsport died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 9:00 p.m. at Indian Path Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born in Richard City, Tennessee, and had resided in Kingsport for the past 45 years. Darrell retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after 45 years of service. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and choir member. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Darrell was an avid golfer who had the honor of scoring three holes-in-one. He loved to play the guitar and also taught guitar lessons.
His sister, Doris Dickerson, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Martha W. Fine of Kingsport; one daughter, Libba Chandler and husband Dr. Glenn Chandler of Murfreesboro, TN; one son, Steve Fine and wife Cheryl of Hixon, TN; five grandchildren, Stephanie Fine, Alex Fine, Angela Rubley, Drew Chandler, Erin Rachel Chandler; one great-granddaughter, Jordyn Townsend; and one sister, Zula McKenzie of El Paso, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
There will be a private graveside service at 12:00 Noon Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites by American Legion Post #3/265. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and friends - Alex Fine, Drew Chandler, Seth Rubley, Shane Townsend, Andy Cook, Joe Arnold, Ben Booker, Mel Brent, Charles Chandler, Gene Crawford, Ben DeGreen, John Douglas, Henry Jones, Dick Lorah, Tommy McNalley, Andre Wallen, and Nat Wheelock.
A celebration of his going home will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Burton, Rev. Bob McNew, and Rev. Allen Bowling officiating.
