Darrell J. "D.J." Salyers, 47, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Norton, VA on December 1, 1965, a son of Lowell E. "Pete" Salyers of Weber City, VA and the late Betty Jo Blevins Salyers. He has resided in this area most of his life.
D. J. was employed at American Water Heater in Johnson City.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jo Blevins Salyers.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Loudy Salyers; sons, Logan Salyers and Lance Salyers, all of Kingsport; his father, Lowell E. "Pete" Salyers of Weber City, VA; brother, James A. "Jim" Salyers and wife, Tammy of Kingsport; sister, Tonya Ellsworth and husband, Kelly of Kingsport; aunts, Kay Marsh, Sarah Dorton, both of Kingsport, Sheila of Norton, VA; Imogene Jackson of North Carolina, Barbara Kiser, Sue Bellamy, both of Kingsport, and Judy Cole of Church Hill; uncle, Gary Blevins and wife, Freida of Kingsport; nieces, Logan and Jordan Roberts, Jasmine and Alisha Salyers; and nephews, Evan Roberts and Austin Salyers.
The family extends a special thank you to all the doctors and staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ER and CCU.
Calling hours are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Joe Monroe and James Brown officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery. Those attending the graveside are to meet by 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at the cemetery. The family will receive friends following interment at Church Hill Church of God.
Pallbearers will be James Brown, Danny Pratt, Josh Hayes, Tim Barnett, Mark Elam, Bruce Ragsdale, Johnny Carlton, and Frank Carmack.
Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Salyers, Lance Salyers, Jack Ragsdale, and Mike Owens.
