Darryl Stevens

November 26, 1942 — August 6, 2024

Darryl Stevens

On August 6, 2024, Arthur Darryl Stevens passed peacefully at his home at the age of 81. Darryl passed from this earthly life into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, where he will spend eternity. We have the faith and assurance that we will see him again in heaven when we are called home. Darryl was born on November 26, 1942, to Arthur and Ethel Stevens in Bristol. After graduating high school in 1961 from Blountville High School, he worked and retired from Eastman Chemical Company after 35 years of service. About a year after retiring, he went to work for Colonial Heights Hardware Store lasting 25 years, before retiring again in 2023.

Darryl & Jean have been members of Colonial Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. Darryl always looked forward to attending Sunday School with his friends each week and even after he was confined to a bed, he often spoke of how he needed to get up and go to Sunday School. Thank you to his friends at church for reaching out and loving our Papaw.

Darryl enjoyed playing golf, photography, spending time with his grandchildren, and taking care of his cat, Boots.

Darryl was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ethel Stevens; sister, Susan Cox; stepmother, Laura Mae Stevens; and mother-in-law, Pauline Byers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean Byers Stevens; three sons, Bobby (Kathleen), Mark (Stacie) and Mike Stevens; daughter, Wendy Woodard; grandchildren, Rebekah (Jordan) Gillenwater, Matthew Stevens, Bryson (Jessa) Stevens, Cason Stevens, Madison Stevens, Taylor Williams, Hailey Williams, Ethan Woodard, Lily Woodard, Cody Woodard; two great-grandchildren and an additional great-grandchild (Tadpole) due this coming November; brother-in-law Bill Byers and wife, Brenda; cousin, Joyceann Irvin and many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother, David (Giovanna) Stevens and their daughter, Joanna Stevens; brother-in-law, Michael Cox and daughters, Elizabeth Roberson & Bethany Glenn, along with their families. Golfing Buddy Ken Day and long-time friend, Judy Miller, along with friends and customers at Colonial Heights Hardware.

Special thanks to Amedisys Home Health Care and his caring nurse, Malika, who always took very good care of him. Thanks to Scott and Smoky Mountain Medical Equipment for the professionalism and caring service.
