Rev. David Lee Harris, 43, of Kingsport, died late Thursday night October 15, 2009 at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Carter County, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was a 1984 graduate of Sullivan North High School. David had worked for Quebecor's Hawkins County division for many years and retired from American Lighting after the deterioration of his health.
David had served as pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Church Hill and Rock Church in Gate City, VA. He had also served as Assistant Pastor at Soul's Harbor Church of God, as a Youth Pastor at Victory Tabernacle Johnson City, and was currently evangelizing out of Weber City Church of God where he was a member. David grew up in and was married at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Delores Harris and infant son, David Jesse Harris.
David is survived his wife, Robin Hammonds Harris of the home; father, Donald Harris of Kingsport; sisters, Brenda Harris Hutson and husband John of Surgoinsville; niece, Kayla Hutson; and extended family, James Ayers, Geneva Ayers, Kim Sams, Kathy Ayers, Jimmy Ayers, Brandon Ayers, and Bobbye Webb.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Weber City Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Raymond Hammons, Wayne Baker, and Geno Fletcher officiating.
Burial will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
