David Alan Baldwin, II

David Alan Baldwin II, age 26, was fatally injured while walking on the sidewalk near his place of employment in Houston, Texas on Sunday, May 6, 2007. He died as a result of a hit and run driver. At the time of his death, David resided in Houston and was employed as a chef at R.A. Sushi Restaurant.

David was born and resided in Kingsport, TN until entering the US Army in 2001. He attended Eastside Church of Christ and First Broad Street United Methodist Church. He was a 1998 Graduate of Dobyns Bennett High School and was a member to the Forensic Debate Team and performed in Dobyns Bennett Theatre Presentations. David also played football during his freshman year of high school. He attended Middle Tennessee State University and Northeast State Technical College prior to his enlistment into the Army. Upon entering the Army, David went to Ft. Jackson, SC for basic training. After completing basic training, David entered the Armed Forces Quartermasters School at Ft. Lee, VA; where he graduated the Quartermasters Culinary School with high honors. He was transferred to Ft. Sill, OK to the 2-18th Field Artillery Regiment as a Quartermaster. He was deployed to Iraq and was part of the initial convoy into Baghdad. Upon his return from Iraq, he remained at Ft. Sill until the end of his enlistment and honorable discharge from the Army. He moved to Houston to attend The Arts Institute of Houston?Culinary Arts. While attending culinary school, David worked as an intern and Sous Chef in the Exxon building in Houston. David began his duties as chef in 2006, at the grand opening of the R.A. Sushi Restaurant.

No matter where he was, he always had a smile. His many friends say his personality was wonderful, always cheerful. Everyone he met liked him immediately. Some of David?s friends from Houston, Jerry Jan, Jessica Blount, Jonathan Boyle, Lainey Callum, and Lisa Landry have flown in to be with David?s family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Robert Elmer and Verginia Jones Mooney of Medina, TN; paternal grandparents Morris and Eurita Baldwin and paternal uncle Johnny S. Baldwin of Weber City, Va. He was also preceded in death by his best friend Scottie.


David is survived by his parents, Regena Mooney B. Bacon and her husband Drury of Goodyear, Arizona and David A. Baldwin, Sr. and his wife Susan of Kingsport: Step-sister Ashley Sullivan and Tim; Step-sister Mellissa Steadman Rogers of Louisville, KY; Step-brother Bill Steadman and wife Lisa of Church Hill TN. Aunts and uncles- Faye Dunkin, Mobile, AL; Brenda Saddoris, Jackson,. TN; Teresa Stephens and Larry, Milan, TN; Steven Mooney and Rhonda, Humboldt, TN; Patricia Baldwin Eller and Jim of Denver, NC; Judy Baldwin Shearin and Scott of Weber City, VA. David is also survived by numerous great aunts, uncles and cousins.


Family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, Saturday, May 12, 2007. Services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Posts 3/265.
