David Keith Kerney, 71, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters, at his home. David was a Christian and an active member of Orebank Missionary Baptist Church for 51 years, where he served as a deacon. A loving husband, father and Pap, David was a big UT fan, loved to watch the Andy Griffith Show while drinking a Dr. Enuf. In fact, he was a self-proclaimed deputy of Mayberry. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, working crossword puzzles and going to watch his grandsons in their sporting events.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest E. and Tillie Kate Kerney; brothers, Steve Kerney, Tommy Kerney, Ronald Kerney, Richard Kerney; and lifelong friend, Steve Strickler.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Susie Kerney; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristi Ratliff (Bruce), Holly Griffith (Eric) and Lindsey Hagy (Andrew); grandsons, who were his pride and joy, Zachary and Isaac Ratliff, Gunner and Owen Griffith, Aiden Rhoton, Skyler and Levi Hagy; sisters-in-law, Denise Kerney, Tracy Kerney and Michelle Kerney; brother-in-law, Freddie Minnix and wife, Delores; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Orebank Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. David Smith officiating.
Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons and special nephew, Mason Mounger.
