David Dwight Mason

David Mason, 59, of Piney Flats, went to be with the Lord following a battle with cancer on Saturday, May 31, 2014. A native of Piney Flats, he was the son of Betty Mason and the late Charles "Dwight" Mason. He taught for 32 years in the Virginia Public School System with 29 years in Gate City as a teacher and coach. Dave was a member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church. He loved to play basketball and was an outstanding player at Sullivan East High School, Hiwassee Junior College and TN Wesleyan College. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Kevin Mason and wife, Lyndsey of Kingsport; two grandchildren, Lynnea and Waylon Mason of Kingsport; three brothers, Mark Mason and wife, Karen, Bryan Mason and wife, Becky, and John Mason, all of Piney Flats; former wife, Sandy Johnson of Mt. Carmel; nephew, Dustin Mason of Piney Flats; and many cousins.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Kevin Morris officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 3:00 pm at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be former Gate City High School Basketball Players.
