David S. Hargis, 85, of Kingsport, TN passed away on September 18, 2017.
He was born June 26, 1932 in Paris, AR and grew up in the Lakeview Community of Rossville, GA. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1949. David was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. After that he attended Georgia Tech, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. David and his family moved to Ft. Worth, TX where he worked for Convair. They moved to Kingsport in 1961 where he accepted a job at Eastman Kodak Company. He retired after 26 years of service in 1987. He also worked for Bechtel Engineering. David was a lifetime member of the Sertoma Club of Kingsport.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloye Sims, his mother and adoptive father, Ruby and Jim Hargis; and sisters, Wanda Ryan and Ruth Ray.
David is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean; his son, David and wife, Emily; daughter, Melanie and husband, Joe White; and son, Daniel and wife, Rebecca; grandchildren, Britney Hitchcock, and Katherine and Nathan Hargis; 2 great-grandsons, Riley and Abraham; brothers, James Hargis and Earl Mason; sister, Ellen Duffy; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Joe White officiating.
Burial will follow the funeral service at East Tennessee Cemetery.
