David H. Stauffer, Jr., 76, died peacefully Saturday September 24, 2016, at NHC Rehab in Kingsport after a brief illness. He was born in Kingsport on August 30, 1940 to Harold and Lucille Stauffer, their only child, who preceded him in death. David was a member of Glen Alpine Methodist Church but had been an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 53 years. He graduated from Sullivan High School and The University of Tennessee with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked for Holston Army Ammunition Plant for 31 years. David and his wife Paula owned and operated Stauffer Construction for over 40 years, building many custom homes in the Tri-City area. David was a caring and generous person who consistently thought of others. He enjoyed helping those less fortunate.
David was actively involved in the National, State and Local Home Builders Associations. He was a past president of the Home Builders Association of TN, a past president of Home Builders of Greater Kingsport and Local Life Director, State Life Director and National Life Director of the Home Building Industry. David served as a realtor with Town and Country Realty. He was presently on the Kingsport City Planning Commission, Sullivan County Board of Zoning Appeals and Habitat for Humanity. He was an active member of Daniel Boone Regional Antique Automotive Club of America and the East Tennessee Region Model A Restorers Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Paula Sue Carico Stauffer; two daughters, Michelle (Thomas) Cotten of Lexington, SC and Dr. Deborah (Dr. Bill) Carson of Kingsport, TN; three granddaughters, Sushannah Cotten (Nathan) Yandle, Alex Cotten, and Laine Carson; three grandsons, Andrew Cotten, Jacob Carson, and Tate Carson; one great grandson, Elijah Yandle; sisters in law and brothers in law, Rhoda and John Franklin, Nancy and Maurice Jackson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Blountville with the Reverends Mary Louise Sitton of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Will Shewey of Shades of Grace officiating.
The burial will follow in Immanuel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Barger, Jason Peek, John Babb, Butch Jones, Sam Kassem, Phil Rickman, Roger Warner and Wayne Long.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at NHC Kingsport and Caris Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care of David.
