Debra Overbay Light

Debra Meade Overbay Light, age 66, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at her residence with her family & friends by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Kingsport on March 5, 1952, a daughter if the late Marvin and Mary Meade, she had resided in this area her entire life. She graduated from Lynn View High School in 1970. She attended Gospel Mission Church. She retired from Century Link in 2014 following 40 years of service. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mom, grandmother, sister and friend who loved to vacation, going to the beach, collecting, snowmen and shopping at the malls.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Smokey Mountain Hospice and to her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hubbard and Aileen Trivette.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hurld Overbay, and son, Brian Overbay.

Debra is survived by her husband of 14 years, Gary Light; stepchildren, Nathan Light and wife Charlotte of Kingsport, and Crystal Goodwin of Fall Branch; step-grandchildren, Makayla Light, Nevada Goodwin, Savannah Goodwin and Kelly Wentworth; sister, Rossanna Leonard of Bristol, TN; brother, Greg Meade of Mountain City; special nieces, September, Cayla and Megan; and special friends, Deanna Sluss and Debra Bowen.

The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 pm on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch and at the residence of Phyllis and Don Hubbard. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Honorary Minister Lewis Meade, Rev. Dan Dolen, Rev. Shelton Meade and Rev. Nathan Light officiating.

Burial will follow the graveside service at 11:00 am on Monday at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Those attending the committal services are asked to assemble at 10:00 am at the funeral home and then proceed to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Dickens, Roger Fink, Keith Fink, David Parker, Greg Meade, Gary Leonard and Tony Leonard.
