Delaney Owens, 78, of Fall Branch, went peacefully early Saturday morning to be with the Lord.
Delaney was born in Kingsport and had resided in the Kingsport and Fall Branch area for most of his life. He was an over-the-road truck driver prior to being a self employed carpenter. He attended Lovelace Baptist Church and Sunrise Baptist Church. Delaney served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orgie and Effie Catron Owens; sister, Geneva Ruth Owens; infant daughter, Carolyn Artie Owens; and nephew, Steve Rigsby.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mrs. Lola Ryans Owens of the home; son, Charles Delaney Owens, of Kingsport; daughter, Donna Jeanette Light, of Kingsport; two step-daughters, Anna Marie Lamp, of West Virginia, Brenda Thornburg, of Fall Branch; devoted sister, Jane Owens Rigsby Clark, of Kingsport; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and niece, Tracy Vaughn, of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, January 24, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Fall Branch. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Allen Brumley and Rev. Kelly Dykes officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 25, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Posts #3/265. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
