With love we remember Delores Pratt Bond, known as Lori to anyone who knew her after high school. She left us on August 21, 2015, at the age of 76.
Lori was born June 23, 1939, to Frank and Edna Pratt in Scott County, Va. She grew up in Kingsport and graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School with the great class of '57. Lori has remained friends with a number of her fellow graduates and has faithfully attended (and helped plan) many a high school reunion. She graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1961 where she was involved in student government, the Panhellenic Council, several honor societies, and was a true sister in Pi Beta Phi. Lori always remembered her college years fondly, and her sorority sisters were loyal friends. After returning to Kingsport to work at Tennessee Eastman, she was set up on a blind date which would alter the course of her life. Lori married Everett Bond on February 2, 1963, and they were devoted to each other for 52 years. During that time, they raised three children in a loving and nurturing household.
While Lori's focus was centered on raising her children, she did find time for other endeavors and service opportunities. She and Everett were co-owners of Pappagallo with David and Vaughan Valentine and maintained stores in Kingsport and Bristol from 1970-1987. Lori was a proud active and sustaining member of the Junior League, was on the executive board of the Women's Symphony Committee, was a reading volunteer with the Kiwanis program at Kennedy Elementary, and was an active volunteer at her children's schools in Kingsport and Charlotte, NC.
Although most of her years were spent in Kingsport, Lori and Everett also lived in Atlanta, England, and Charlotte. The four years they spent living near London, England, in the early '70s instilled in Lori a love of travel and an interest in anything British. Lori and Everett traveled extensively throughout Europe during that time and still have friends across the globe. Later in life, some of their favorite trips included New Zealand, British Victoria B.C., New York, and San Francisco.
Lori had an eye for decorating and enhanced each of their homes with a British style using objects bought during their overseas travel. She was also a wonderful cook, and she enjoyed collecting and reading cookbooks as well as decorating books. She truly enjoyed her family and was her happiest when she could combine all those interests by planning and cooking a meal for a large family get-together hosted in her lovely home, especially on Christmas Eve. She was a dedicated caretaker to her mother, who died at 95 just last year, even as Lori faced her own health issues.
She will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind: her husband, Everett; her brother, Tom Pratt; her son, Andy Bond and wife Melissa (Cary, NC); her daughter, Katie Bond Morgan and husband Ward (Richmond, VA); her daughter, Jennifer Bond Walker and husband Kris (Highland Park, IL); and 11 grandchildren: Bailey, Samantha, Drew, and Tristan Bond; Carter, Audrey, and Maeve Morgan; and Ella, Tane, Kavan, and Maisie Walker.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 26 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, where Lori was a member, with Dr. David Cagle, Senior Pastor officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the memorial service.
Donations in Lori Bond's name may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN, 37660.
