Demp V. Morelock, 92, beloved husband, Dad, and Papaw went to be with his Lord on Sunday May 16, 2010.
He was born in the Beech Creek area of Hawkins County during World War I to Noah and Etta Morelock. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the 52nd Squadron of the 6th Air Force in the Army Air Corps. He married Belle Compton on February 5, 1945 and they were married more than 65 years.
Demp was employed by Eastman Kodak for more than 38 years before retiring in 1980. He belonged to the Moose Lodge and also the VFW and American Legion veterans' groups. He gave his heart to the Lord during the great Kingsport revival of 1952 at Pleasant View Baptist Church and credited Him for his long life.
His parents; brothers, Roy and Curtis Morelock; sisters, Nell Fields, Audrey Morelock, and Geneva Neal; and an infant brother, Clifford, preceded him in death.
Demp is survived by his wife, Belle, of the home; a brother, Hobert, of Kingsport; son, Cecil and wife, Barbara, of Kingsport, with their sons, Joshua and Jonathan and wife, Miyuki; son, David and wife, Kathy, of Knoxville, with their sons, Matthew, Daniel, Joseph, and Stephen; daughter, Mary McPeak and husband Phillip, of Johnson City, with their daughter, Dr. Melody McPeak, and their son Matthew and his wife Melissa with great-grandchildren Aiden and Holden; and daughter Kathy Mayo of Knoxville, with her daughters Alice and Katherine Molly Mayo.
The family is especially grateful for the love and care of a special friend, Becky Lee, who made life so much better during a difficult time, and for the warm caring assistance of other Amedisys Hospice Services caregivers who made a difference in our lives.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will be at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Fields officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony McClellan, Daniel "Butch" Morelock, Jack "Bo" Compton, Johnny Ray Castle, Arthur "Artie" Compton, Mike Fields, Phil McPeak, and Kyle Chase.
