Dennis Carl Thornburg

Dennis Carl Thornburg, 60, of Limestone, TN set off on his last ride to heaven on Saturday, May 16th, 2015 in his home. Dennis was a true cowboy, and anybody who knew him knew he had a special way with horses. He was an avid team roper with METRA and the United States Team Roping Association and a lifelong rodeo competitor. He was a professional horse trainer, one of the best around. Dennis trained many saddlebred champions and team roping horses; he had a magical touch with these animals. In addition to his talents with horses, he was a licensed auctioneer as well as a hairdresser. Dennis was a great friend and a hard worker who could do anything he set his mind to. He went out of his way to help people. You didn't ask Dennis a question if you didn't want an answer, and if he didn't know the answer he'd find one... that's just the way it was. When his daughter was young you could catch him shoeing a horse with a diaper in one pocket and a bottle in the other. He was a truly a decent man, and in the end he found a peaceful place to call home. He's waiting in heaven, boots and all.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lillard Thornburg; step-father, Dale Hensley; and grandparents, Carl "Jess" and Beulah Johnson, and David and Ora Mae Thornburg.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Thornburg; son, Brad Thornburg; grandchildren, Dennis Thornburg, Shea Ann Thornburg, and Jake Johnson; mother, Imogene Hensley; two sisters, Rita Thornburg and Angie Hensley; two nieces, Chelsey and Megan Johnson; and special friends, Mike Persinger, Roy Fox, Tracy Hayes and Stacy Hayes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm.

The graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Cherry Hill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends with gather at the graveside for the service at 10:45 am.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Dickerson, Dwight Thornburg, Shelton Johnson, Chris Sexton, Rick McCrary, Delaney Roberts and Greg Rasnake. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Colt Kaye and Stacy Hayes.
