Dessie Mae Absher, 79, of Kingsport, went to rest in the arms of Jesus Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center with family and friends at her side.
She was born August 26, 1934, and spent her life in Kingsport, raising her children. Dessie Mae was the best mom, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend anyone ever met. She will be missed by all who knew here. She loved the Lord and often sang in church.
Dessie Mae was preceded in death by her first husband, James G. Brummett; her late husband, Richard D. Absher; daughter, Opal Hickman; brother, Amos Hensley; mother, Mary Lawson; step-daughter, Faye Absher.
Those surviving to cherish her memory are daughter, Mary Houseright of the home; special grandson, Bryen Ray of the home; daughters, Geneva Farmer and Vanessa Pratt; sons, James E. Brummett and wife Debbie of Texas, Terry L. Brummett & wife, Wilma, Richard A. Absher and wife Sherry and Robert Trinkle all of Kingsport; step-sons, Ronnie Absher, Bruce Absher, and Matthew Absher all of Kingsport;
several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit any time at her daughter's home at 650 E. Sevier Ave., Apt. 102, in Kingsport.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Hill, and
Rev. Mike Dugger officiating.
The graveside service will be at time 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Chestnut Flats Cemetery in Scott County, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Adam McMurray, Joshua McMurray, Jordan Stanley, Raymond Vanderpool, Freddie Skaggs, and Eddie Wade. Jerry Collins will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
