Dianne Elizabeth Donaldson Hamblen, 62, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, October 22, 2011.
Dianne was born to Raymond and Ora Anderson Donaldson in Atlanta, Georgia on September 30, 1949 and grew up in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She was also a member of the UT band, where she met the love of her life, her future husband of 41 years, Sam Hamblen. Married on August 29, 1970, they had two daughters, Elizabeth in 1975 and Sarah in 1978.
After graduating from UT in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration and briefly working at the University, Dianne began her 33 year career in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, working at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the K-25 site, and most recently the Y-12 National Security Complex, where she served as a Program Staff Specialist in the Chief Financial Officer Division.
Dianne served her community through her membership in the Oak Ridge Jaycettes, where she served in many officer positions, including President. She was also a member of the Xi Delta Upsilon Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi community service sorority, where she held numerous officer positions as well.
Dianne was an avid UT sports fan, matched only by her love of family, friends, books and the beach.
Dianne was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Raymond E. Donaldson. She is survived by her mother, Ora A. Donaldson of Kingsport, her husband Sam E. Hamblen of Chattanooga, her daughter Elizabeth L. Hamblen of Chattanooga, her daughter Sarah R. Hamblen of Danville, Virginia, and her sister Brenda L. Donaldson of Kingsport. Dianne is also survived by an extended family of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, a grand-nephew, cousins and many dear friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Kern Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge 451 East Tennessee Avenue followed by a short service at the church. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport 800 Truxton Drive.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dianne's honor to the charitable organization of your choice.
