Dianne Davis Sluder, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died at home on April 13, 2010 after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. The Morristown, TN, native was a 1966 graduate of Carson-Newman College where she received a BS in Elementary Education.
She taught in the Tennessee and North Carolina public school systems and was later a small business owner. Dianne was an avid antique collector and an accomplished needlework artisan who enjoyed replicating antique needlework samplers. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Dianne lived her adult life in Kingsport and was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Wood Davis, and her daughter Lara Sluder Woodard.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry; her son Scott and wife Katherine Sluder and grandson Samuela"all of Knoxville. She is also survived by her father, C.T. Davis; her brother, James and wife Joy Davis of Morristown; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be Friday at 1 pm at Gunnings Cemetery. Wayne Semmons, Allan Newland, Art Johnson, Steve Clayman, Steve Rochelle, and Bob Kerns will serve as pallbearers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Friday at Mountain View United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Countiss officiating. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service at the church.
