Don Gordon Cox

Don Gordon Cox, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024. He was born to the late Millard and Helen Olinger Cox on October 9, 1934 in Kingsport, Tennessee. 

Don worked for Eastman Chemical Company in Tennessee and Carolina Eastman in Columbia, South Carolina for over 40 years. Don loved horses and enjoyed riding in the Gray wagon train, he was an avid fisherman, loved watching Braves baseball and spending time with his grandchildren and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Helen Cox; his loving wife of 70 years, Margie Lynn Cox; brothers, Billy and Jimmy Cox; sister-in-law, Shirley Cox; and grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Cox. 

Don is survived by his daughter, Debbie Smith (Eugene) of Knoxville, TN; son, Gordon Cox (Linda) of Jonesborough, TN; brother, Eddie Cox (Charlene) of Batesville, Arkansas; sister, Kay Cross (Ivan) of Gray, TN; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Cox of Batesville, Arkansas. 

The family wishes to thank the caregivers with Seniors Helping Seniors and the staff at Johnson City Medical Center for their loving care of Don. 

Pallbearers will be family and friends. 

The family will receive friends from 1pm – 2pm on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, 2630 TN-75, Blountville, TN, 37617. A service will follow at 2pm with David Cross officiating. Graveside services will take place following the service.
