Don "Duckshot" Fields

Don "DuckShot" Fields, age 79, passed away Wednesday morning, August 23rd, 2023, in Kingsport Tennessee. Don, also known as "Dr. Feelbad," was a hard-working over-the-road truck driver with over a million safe miles under his belt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A human navigational tool, Don frequently baffled his children and grandchildren with his uncanny ability to always know where they were when traveling, often within a couple of mile-markers of their actual location. Don did this without a GPS or map and could almost always describe the sites around and how far away that mile marker was from the best truck stops on the route. It seemed like there was no corner of this country that Don didn't know like the back of his hand. Don would worry when his children and grandchildren were on the road, and he would stay up far too late to make sure everyone reached their destination safely. Don was rarely serious and had a mischievous sense of humor, starting almost every phone call fishing for a laugh, and cracking jokes with everyone around him right up to the day he passed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Morton and Annie Fields; brothers, Harold Fields and Loren Allen Fields; sister Joyce Trepp; and grandson, Chance A Fields. 

Don is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Patricia Fields; daughter, Donna and husband Jeff Vrieze; son, Tony Fields; brother, James Fields; grandson, Blake Vrieze and wife Kelsey; great-granddaughter, Julia Vrieze; his brothers and sisters in law, whom he loved like his own siblings; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Hammond Posts 3/265 and Eulogy by Blake Vrieze.
