Don Smith

Donald Gene Smith, 73, of Kingsport passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011. He lived and worked in the Kingsport area all of his adult life. Donald worked at Holston Valley Hospital for many years; he also lived and worked at the Kingsport Salvation Army. He enjoyed playing bingo and attending Dobyns-Bennett football games. Donald came to Greystone Health Care 8 years ago and was loved by all the residents and employees. He attended Christian Fellowship Church with some of his fellow residents. He will be missed by everyone who came to know him.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Smith and Mary Odell Rutledge Smith and a brother, Henry Joe Smith.

Survivors include his sisters, Trula Johnson of Silver Spring, MD, Shirley Dorton of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, June Steadman.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2011 at Gunnings Cemetery with Rev. Elmer Lester officiating. A memorial service will follow at Greystone Health Care at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend the memorial service at Greystone.
