Donald T. Altizer, 72, Kingsport, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Valls Creek, West Virginia, he was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School.
Don was a member of the U. S. Army Green Berets during the Vietnam Conflict and served in the Army twenty years before retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church.
His wife, Phyllis Altizer; parents, William D. and Alma Altizer Lane; brother, Clyde Altizer; and sister, Toni Dale preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Altizer and Carol Cowden and husband Bob, all of Kingsport; two sons, Terry Altizer and wife Vivian of Kingsport and Benjamin Altizer of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Bear, Lillian Smith, Norma Ellis, and Naomi Crawford, all of Kingsport; one brother, William Irvin Altizer of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Wallen of Fort Robinson Baptist Church officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #3/265.
