Donald "Don" Dykes, 79, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a long period of declining health. Don served his country in the Korean War, after which he was employed at Tennessee Eastman Company until his retirement. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Josie Arnold Dykes; sisters and their husbands, Frances and Alton Belcher, Ina and Harold Rader, Betty and Raymond Smelcer; brothers, Bill Dykes and Earl Dykes; and nephew, Alton Belcher, Jr.
He leaves behind his wife, June; sisters-in-law, Jewel Dykes of Rogersville and June Dykes of Baileyton; nieces, Patricia Quarles, Caroline Pfrimmer, Susan Hudson, Millie Cooter, and April Jones; and nephew, David Dykes.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Robert Countiss officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be David Dykes, Mike Quarles, Randy Duncan, John Cornelius, Alan Henderson, Scot Warren, Pete Baird, and Robert Rexter.
