Donald R. "Hickie" Hickman

Donald R. "Hickie" Hickman, 75, Kingsport, passed away at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Don was born in Clinchco, VA and had resided in Kingsport since his early childhood. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School where he played football. Don was an employee of Daniels Construction and later drove for General Shale for several years prior to retiring. Don served in the TN Army National Guard. He loved camping with friends and family, especially at Myrtle Beach. Don was an avid fan of Tennessee football and the Lady Vols. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doris Hickman; brothers, Bob Hickman and Jessie (Sam) Hickman; and sisters, Marcella Mullins, Nell Willis and Judy Grindstaff.

Don is survived by his wife of 55 ½ years, Brenda Steadman Hickman; son, Duane Hickman and wife, Stacey of Colonial Heights; daughter, Donna Bryant and husband, David of Blountville; grandchildren, Drew Bryant, Nicholas Hickman, Zachary Hickman and Jake Bryant; sister-in-law, Nina Hickman; brother-in-law, Glen Grindstaff; special niece, Pam Pippin; and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 pm with Glenna Lisenby and Nicholas Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Drew Bryant, Nicholas Hickman, Zachary Hickman, Jake Bryant, Terry Way and Con Ramey. Honorary pallbearers will be Truman Light, Elmo Light, Ted Franklin, David Bryant and Glen Grindstaff.
