Donald H. Thompson, 78, Church Hill Health Care and Rehabilitation, formerly of 1832 Garland Street, Kingsport, went peacefully to be with the Lord Saturday morning April 26, 2008.
Donald was born in Kingsport, a graduate of Sullivan High School's Class of '48. He was a former employee of Borden Mill and Eastman. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Thompson was a lifetime member of Vermont United Methodist Church. He served as a volunteer at Wellmont Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.H. and Laura Litton Thompson.
Surviving are his son, Allen Thompson and wife, Deborah, Dandridge, TN; grandchildren, Christi Thompson and PO 2nd Class Geoffrey Thompson; great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Carrie; sisters, Katherine Price and husband, Richard, Michigan, Charlene Clark, Janice Barrett and husband, Bud; brothers, Sam Thompson, Wayne Thompson and wife, Ann, and Lowell Thompson and wife, Nancy; three nieces; seven nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Vermont United Methodist Church. Services will be at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Cahill officiating. Family will also receive friends anytime at the home of his brother, Lowell, at 1814 Bloomingdale Pike.
Military graveside services will be conducted at East Lawn Memorial Park by the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3/265.
Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Church Hill Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and the VA Center, Mountain Home, TN, for their care and concern for the past seven years.
