Donna Jean (Culbertson) Necessary

Donna Necessary, 82, of Blountville, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, after an extended illness.

Donna was born on September 11, 1941, in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.  She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, Class of 1959, a chosen member of the National Honor Society, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Blountville for over 50 years. Donna’s special interests included cake decorating, bible study and teaching; and loving and taking care of her family.  She worked briefly at Bennett and Edwards Insurance and at Eastman Chemical Company. 

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Don Palmer Culbertson and Opal Hickman Culbertson; grandparents, Jeptha and Lissie Culbertson and Sam and Catherine Hickman; and her beloved husband of 59 ½ years, Charles Leon “Chuck” Necessary, who recently passed on August 12, 2023, and who was her best friend and the love of her life.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons; Chip and Chad Necessary; granddaughter, Brittany Mercer; grandson, Tyler Blake Necessary; “special daughters”, Marla Odom, Mona Dotson, and Kim Necessary; brother, Jerry Byron Culbertson; sister, Darlene Moody; sisters-in-law Dena (Byron) Culbertson; Terri (Don) Neff and Janis Necessary; brother-in-law, Jack (Teresa) Necessary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 1:00pm – 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Blountville with a service officiated by Pastor Clay Austin to follow. There will be no formal committal service.

Pallbearers will be Fred McCamy, Steve Evans, Melvin Boyd, Tommy Summey, Scott Hammitt and Bud Manuel.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Amedysis Hospice for their excellent care, as well as Smokey Mountain Oxygen and Medical Equipment.

It was Donna’s request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Amedysis Hospice, 2025 MeadowView Parkway, Suite 101, Kingsport, TN, 37660 or to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 587, Blountville, TN 37617.
