Dora Smith Horne, 97, of Kingsport, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Horne was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a lifetime member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Avery A. Horne; parents, George and Bertie Smith; two brothers, Emmett Smith and Nelson Smith; three sisters, Eva Strickler, Charmie Winebarger and Susie Campbell; one granddaughter, Melinda "Sissy" Prevatt; and one great-grandson, Landon Larkins.
Surviving are five daughters, Clara Prevatt of Leesburg, FL, Neta Vance and husband Stephen of Kingsport, Margie Larkins and husband Oscar of Kingsport, Stacy Overbay and husband Don of Waynesville, NC, and Betty Pleasant and husband Mike of Telford, TN; two sons, Ralph Horne and wife Billye of Greeneville, TN, and Fred Horne and wife Jane of Kingsport.
Survivors also include fifteen grandchildren, Doug Horne and wife Brenda of Huntington, WV, Pam Maggio and husband Tony of Greeneville, TN, Jeff Prevatt, of Leesburg, FL, Marty Prevatt of Leesburg, FL, Reggie Prevatt of Jacksonville, FL, Stephen A. Vance and wife Mary of Sophia, NC, Gregory Vance and wife Vanette of Loganville, WI, Bryan Larkins and wife Tina of Kingsport, Mark Larkins and wife Melissa of Kingsport, Terry Horne and wife Traci of Mt. Juliet, TN, Kevin Horne and wife Greta of Kingsport, Daniel Horne and wife Lisa of Mount Carmel, Andy Overbay and wife Shelly of Fairbanks, AK, Allison VanLaningham and husband Brad of Asheboro, NC, and Jon Overbay of Durham, NC; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Ketron of Church Hill and Mayme Pecktol of Blountville; one brother, George Lee Smith and wife Lottie of Kingsport; and several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
The family extends special thanks to Lisa, Janet and Lynn of Home Instead of Senior Care and the Third Floor nurses and staff of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with her nephew, Rev. Carl Strickler officiating.
Burial will follow at Emory United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
