Doris Joan Ahern beloved and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and soon to be great-grandmother ~ age 86 of Kingsport, TN died on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport. She was born on September 9, 1938 in Kingsport, TN to the late John Mack Lane and Polly Rachel Taylor Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Ahern; sister, Shirley Lane Adair; one brother, Jerry Mack Lane; one daughter, Nora Kay Ahern Broyles; and one granddaughter Erin Broyles.
Doris is survived by her children, Luanna Ahern, Walter Ahern, Andrew Ahern, Susan Greene; and grandchildren, Cody Lantz, Derek Lantz, Evan Broyles, Kristen Lantz, and Fatima Ahern.
Doris had a remarkable career with the United Methodist Church. She served at Munsey, Mayfair, 1st UMC in Bristol and Mountain View. Highlights of her career included serving residents during the John Sevier fire in 1989. She earned her master’s degree at Scarritt College in Nashville and taught there for several years. Highlights in her Ministry career include being appointed as a Diaconal Minister and she was an ordained Deacon in 2000.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025 beginning at 2:00 pm with a service at 3:00 pm at First Broad Street UMC.
